My Film Studio Favorites

A behind-the-scenes peek at the studio space that helps me video record with ease.

As a creative entrepreneur, the need for recording video content is constant. Whether I’m filming for an online course, documenting a creative process, recording an interview, or creating social content, video is the medium I return to again and again.

But for nearly a decade, it was one of the most frustrating parts of my workflow.

Each time I needed to film, I found myself dragging out gear, hunting for missing batteries, adjusting a teleprompter, resetting backdrops, hoping everything was charged… and then cleaning it all up to get back to designing. That cycle of setting up and tearing down was draining. It created a bottleneck that made filming feel like a hurdle instead of a joy.

So, I made a change. I carved out a room and turned it into a dedicated video studio setup, a space designed to support my work and make recording easy.

Now, I walk in, press the record button, and begin. I’ve used this setup for over two years, and without a doubt, it’s one of the best business decisions I’ve made.

 A Peek Inside the Studio

1. Inspiration Pinboard

As you enter the studio, you're greeted by a large pinboard filled with ribbons, color swatches, foraged finds, pressed flowers, taped photos, and pieces of fabric. It evolves with the seasons and often becomes the backdrop for the videos I record. I think of it as a living mood board that keeps me inspired every time I sit down to film.

 2. Studio Bookshelf

Along one wall, a wooden bookshelf holds a mix of vintage botanical books, art journals, sketchbooks, paintbrushes in handmade mugs, and studio supplies I often use. There’s even a growing collection of journals I’ve saved for inspiration.

3. Wool Rug 

A thick, creamy wool rug helps absorb sound and creates a cozy grounding for the room. It also softens the space, making it feel warm and inviting.

4. Acoustic Paneling

To improve sound quality, I added acoustic panels around the room. These small additions make a big difference in clarity and echo… especially helpful for filming online course content or voiceovers.

5. Touch of Greenery

To make the room feel more alive, I brought in a faux tree (this one’s from Studio McGee!) along with a few fresh or dried garden blooms. It brings warmth and a natural element that softens the more technical parts of the space.

6. Custom Studio Desk

At the center of the room is my desk, made from a piece of antique wood paired with adjustable standing legs. It’s the perfect blend of beauty and function, giving me the flexibility to stand or sit depending on what I’m recording.

7. Full-Length Mirror

A full-length mirror adds light and helps me double-check details before I begin filming. I love this one with the wood frame, but any simple mirror that fits your aesthetic will do the job beautifully.
