Flourish donates to sustain ongoing impact. This page is where we'll post periodical updates on our giving as well as the communities impacted.
Through Flourish, Healing Waters has been able to bring water to three communities in Honduras: Chacula, Chochal and Txe-joj
Together we can make a HUGE impact!
UPDATES:
Phase I of the project was inaugurated this July and represents our largest project to date – serving 250+ households. Later this Fall, we plan to begin phase II, which will bring additional water from the river nearly 3km away, up more than 900m of elevation, using 200+ solar panels, to reach an additional 350 families (over 3,000 individuals in total).
Because of friends like you, we are able to serve communities, like El Pajal, throughout Central America, Mexico, and Haiti, where marginalized families continue to face an uphill journey to access safe water. Thank you for being a part of their story of hope.
During implementation, a water kiosk was constructed at each site to house the water purification equipment and serve as a distribution point for the community. All of the purification equipment was then installed within the kiosk. Designated community members assisted in this process and received training on maintenance and operation of the equipment to ensure long-term sustainability. In addition, business operations training was conducted to equip the community to manage financial operations of the kiosk to ensure effective funding of ongoing operations. Finally, training was conducted to prepare local trainers and to educate participants on critical health & hygiene topics including germs, handwashing, food preparation, disease pathway blocking, and personal hygiene.
Each site’s implementation activities culminated in an inauguration ceremony, where the members of each community gathered to celebrate the opening of the water kiosk and the availability of safe, clean water in the community. During the inauguration, each family is provided with a reusable 5-gallon jug for water distribution, along with personal water bottles for drinking. In addition, graduates of the health and hygiene program are recognized with a certificate of completion – which is especially meaningful to the women who often have little to no formal education or recognition.

You might remember that during open enrollment of Flourish earlier this year (April, 2020), 100% of proceeds from new members were matched and donated to Healing Waters to help bring clean water to the communities who need it desperately. Together we have raised and donated $51,678.88.
Above is a link to a video taken on-site in Txe-joj – the first of the 3 projects sites in Guatemala to be implemented. Since this video was taken, implementation has been completed and the team is actively working on implementation in Chochal.
In the video, Healing Waters country manager Jorge is interviewing Mr. Margarito (the community leader in Txe-joj) and Mr. Baldino from a nearby community who was instrumental in brining us to Txe-joj. One of the striking discoveries we made in each of the 3 communities that Flourish has sponsored is that all 3 of them independently shared their skepticism about the reality of the project based on false promises that have been made to them in the past by individuals or organizations trying to take advantage of them.

As you know, last week we raised money for Healing Waters and I have a special update for you! As a way to support communities during the pandemic, 100% of new member's first month's proceeds went to Healing Waters International to help in their efforts of bringing clean water to the communities who need it most. I also 'matched' each new member with an existing member's monthly membership amount.
Together we raised $51,678 for Healing Waters. Flourish made a huge impact!
